The never ending need for validation!
Especially when you don’t seem to be getting the recognition you deserve (you know what I’m writing about).
Over the past three days, I’ve mostly enjoyed writing on knowing your why. Because some times this can be a lonely road and I know you usually start out for yourself, as most people say, but you can’t help but think about being seen the moment you hit the publish/post button.
You start to relate with the world, after all we are social beings and don’t exist in a vacuum. We do thrive on positivity. That first like and encouraging comment – you start to feel like you are coming into your own. The world will see you know, mwah ha ha!!!
And you love them for finding your little piece of the world and keep hoping that little piece will give you the world in return. All the awards you quietly dream of while saying out loud you do this for yourself. (The latter does not negate the former and vice versa).
If you have it bad like I sometimes do, you start to imagine what you will do with the prize money before you even send in your pitch.
Because I’ve also dreamt of that instant success. Blowing up beyond my wildest dreams😂.
So it makes sense that I particularly enjoyed Yvonne’s perspective that talks of instant success. It’s encouraging and rebuking all at the same time. I mean we live in age of instant almost-everything. Want to know what news broke five minutes ago, two minutes even…just type it in. Food and rides and books and movies.
But also, why has success refused to get the memo?
That two years, I mean two weeks😏, is a long time waiting to be seen and recognised.
And then you get to see some people come after you and sprint ahead…life is unfair. We all know this. But then emotions get in the way. You start to consider quitting. And you doubt whether this was actually the right path to choose. Can’t it be easier, when does Lady Luck smile upon your endeavours?
So you need to remember your why when the going gets tough. And if you are being honest with yourself you are mostly doing better than you think. I started the blog for consistency in my writing. That’s the why I say out loud at least 😅. But this is true. And it has been amazing to see everything else that has come with this platform.
Focus on your prize and others will follow.
That marks the end of Creatives Week and Day 4. I hope you are catching up with the rest of the work in the community.
