Creatives: And the award goes to…

The never ending need for validation!

Especially when you don’t seem to be getting the recognition you deserve (you know what I’m writing about).

Over the past three days, I’ve mostly enjoyed writing on knowing your why. Because some times this can be a lonely road and I know you usually start out for yourself, as most people say, but you can’t help but think about being seen the moment you hit the publish/post button.

You start to relate with the world, after all we are social beings and don’t exist in a vacuum. We do thrive on positivity. That first like and encouraging comment – you start to feel like you are coming into your own. The world will see you know, mwah ha ha!!!

And you love them for finding your little piece of the world and keep hoping that little piece will give you the world in return. All the awards you quietly dream of while saying out loud you do this for yourself. (The latter does not negate the former and vice versa).

If you have it bad like I sometimes do, you start to imagine what you will do with the prize money before you even send in your pitch.

Because I’ve also dreamt of that instant success. Blowing up beyond my wildest dreamsπŸ˜‚.

So it makes sense that I particularly enjoyed Yvonne’s perspective that talks of instant success. It’s encouraging and rebuking all at the same time. I mean we live in age of instant almost-everything. Want to know what news broke five minutes ago, two minutes even…just type it in. Food and rides and books and movies.

Why wait?!

But also, why has success refused to get the memo?

That two years, I mean two weeks😏, is a long time waiting to be seen and recognised.

And then you get to see some people come after you and sprint ahead…life is unfair. We all know this. But then emotions get in the way. You start to consider quitting. And you doubt whether this was actually the right path to choose. Can’t it be easier, when does Lady Luck smile upon your endeavours?

So you need to remember your why when the going gets tough. And if you are being honest with yourself you are mostly doing better than you think. I started the blog for consistency in my writing. That’s the why I say out loud at least πŸ˜…. But this is true. And it has been amazing to see everything else that has come with this platform.

Focus on your prize and others will follow.

That marks the end of Creatives Week and Day 4. I hope you are catching up with the rest of the work in the community.

  1. I remember the first week I started my stats were booming and now oh well let’s not go there. One blogger told me not to focus on the numbers and i literally don’t check (okay sometime I do) but it’s not my focus. That ka 1 like can go along way. But am also prepared for no like at all how is because I started to blog to heal and also learn and each time I give out a piece of me that’s one piece of my heart back in the right place.
I do imagine the prizes.(wild thoughts) wow I could go all day. In short thank you for this what a beautiful way to end the week.

    1. I know what it’s like trying to fight that urge to check the statsπŸ˜…. Been there myself. And those waves with their highs and lows where a like is a life saver.
Hear you on going on all day πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but I do get it. I’m glad you could relate.
Thank you for reading and commenting, Tikia. πŸ™‚

    1. Oh yes, comparison is the thief of joy in every single way. If there was honestly a way to blind ourselves to everyone and just ran our race – that would be something.
The why keeps you grounded for sure.
Thank you for reading and commenting, Lebogang. Totally appreciate it😊

    I love that.
It reminds me of “Find YOUR voice and others will listen.”

There’s something to being authentically you that appeals to the masses. Afterall everybody else is already taken.

  3. You’re so right. How ever much we write for ourselves I still find myself getting up in the morning and thinking, β€˜I wonder if anyone noticed that post’ then taking peak. And if someone t takes time to comment 😳How special are we! A good post and reminder of why we write. Look out week 2.

    1. Me too, honestly, Wic. I keep trying to convince myself I’m not all about the numbers (which I’m not really) but they do add some spring to the writing. To know there’s someone on the other end of your words.
      Week 2πŸ’ͺ🏿 going in strong.
Thank you so much for reading and commenting :).
