To the person who feels ‘not enough’.

You have probably heard it all before.

How you are enough and you shouldn’t be looking at other people’s paths. And your head might get that but translating that into daily living is where you seem to fall short. After all, no one lives in your head but you. They have no idea what you are really battling with. How loud your insecurities can be or how they never get the memo to ”go away”.

But you are doing well.

It is one step in front of another. Small great steps that feel like nothing in moment but amount to a milestone in hindsight. And you are piling them up by trudging through the murkiness of these unsettling feelings. Every. Small. Step! Every single day!

I know you don’t want to feel that way. I know there are those moments that creep up on you where you start to wonder what you’ve failed to grasp that everyone else seems to.

It becomes easier to see the flaws in your life and the perfection in theirs. And it’s hard to calmly sort it out by keeping your eyes on your lane when they are in your face with all their wins. Take this space to know your feelings may be valid but are not the truth. Breathe it in – breathe it out and let it go.

Now this is what you should remember!

You are you! Imperfect. Trying. Uncertain. But still finding the strength to make great strides. How do I know they are great? Because no one is doing what you are doing the way you are doing it. You’ve woven yourself in your actions and the world sees that. No one else is loving the people around you like you are. Or singing off-key (or on-key) to your favourite songs like you are. They are tiny pieces of you that you give so freely to the world and that is a good place to start.

In this place – there is room for both. To strive for more while still being perfectly okay with where you are. It is simply admitting that until you are six feet under, there is always more world to see, to discover, to impress, and more life to live. That where you are now, as uncomfortable as it might be, is still an okay starting point to propel you forward.

Do the feelings go away? Do you ever get to the point where you say ‘you are enough’? I wouldn’t do you the disservice of not giving you the answer.

Take your eyes off yourself for a moment, appreciate the small great steps that lead you here – that the sun rose and set, that you read that joke and had that conversation. Immerse yourself in great books and great art. Build it all up second by second. Is it enough in that second? Pile it all up.

Listen to great music like ‘Jireh’ by Elevation Worship and Maverick City. – God is enough. And that is enough. I hope that is enough for you as well.
